Profile
After graduating in law from Brunel University in London, Gavin took a postgraduate qualification in EC law and economics on a scholarship at the University of Amsterdam.
His experience in professional practice has been wide and varied but is now mainly concentrated on general Chancery work including: inc Banking, Charities, Companies, Compulsory Purchase, Copyright & Trademarks, Entertainment and IT Contracts, Franchising, Insolvency, Insurance, Intellectual Property, Landlord & Tenant, Mortgages, Partnerships, Planning, Probate, Real Property, Restrictive Covenants, Settlements and Trusts, TLATA.
He has also had particular experience in claims for malicious and injurious falsehood and comparative advertising between competing businesses.
Gavin also undertakes non-contentious Chancery work, focused on drafting complex contractual arrangements in a range of commercial settings, from a franchising network for a well-known telecoms provider, and a PPP housing initiative for a local authority to terms of business for a diversity of industries from ironworks to computer software.
In the entertainment industry where clients have included the Sex Pistols, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Jimmy Cliff, Alexander O’Neal, Mark Morrison and others, he has successfully helped artistes with royalty recovery, management agreements and exploitation of back catalogues.
Gavin has also represented clients in civil litigation in the Netherlands, Portugal, Jersey, and most recently Kenya (2006) and France (2006-08).
He trained as an examiner in the former Commonwealth Patents Office (Aus.) and has been a director of several successful companies in the publishing and property industries.
