Soraya Pascoe’s practice is diverse.  She is experienced in Immigration Law, Housing, Employment and Mental Health Law.  Her International Law expertise has often informed her civil work and she accepts instructions in the area of civil law generally. She is also able to accept instructions in the Criminal Jurisdiction. 

Soraya specialises in family law, especially in Ancillary Relief and matters concerning international law, including international child abduction, divorce and property cases involving both EU and non-EU countries.  Soraya is on the approved lawyer’s list for the Falkland Islands.

Soraya has extensive experience in international and human rights law and has trained judges in Croatia and Montenegro. She has also trained academics and lectured in Russia. She has developed a specialisation in Eastern European legal systems, including Albanian as well as the former Soviet Bloc countries. Soraya is a consultant legal expert to the UN and the OSCE. She is also a legal expert on cross-jurisdiction law and accepts instructions on both a Single and Single Joint Expert Basis.  Soraya’s international and human rights experience informs her Immigration work.

Since being called to the Bar, Soraya has developed a practice dealing with complex financial claims to highly sensitive employment and professional disciplinary matters.  She is well-versed in Regulatory Work and often appears in Disciplinary Tribunals.

She is also experienced in Sports Law and has advised professional footballers in financial aspects of family law and trusts proceedings and a professional tennis player in company law. She has also advised fencing masters about immigration matters concerning leave to remain in the United Kingdom.

Being able to communicate in several languages, Soraya has also been able to give advice to foreign nationals seeking entry to participate in sporting events in the United Kingdom. Her cross-border expertise has also assisted her in dealing with civil and family law cases where the jurisdiction is disputed.

She has represented the interests of equestrian sportsmen and women as a panel member of the British Horse Society (London Branch) advising on matters from insurance to equestrian law and making representations concerning the location and suitability of the equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympics.

As a keen sportswoman, Soraya is involved in amateur ‘point to point’ horse racing. She has given legal advice on many aspects of horse racing over the years. She has also competed in dressage and show jumping and has been a fence judge on occasion. She is a member of the Bar Riding Group ‘The Pegasus Club’ and has had the benefit of riding the horses at the Royal Horse Artillery (The King’s Troop). She enjoys skill at arms on horseback which is a mixture of archery, falconry and medieval tilt yard martial arts such as jousting. She is also a sabre fencer and plays tennis. When not being quite so active, she enjoys watching football and rugby.

Notable Cases

Badmos v D & K Freight Services Ltd: Soraya was successful in defending this cross-jurisdiction, contractual matter which involved elements of bailment, shipping and aviation law.

R v Torres (aka Da Souza): Soraya successfully represented an individual who had been wrongfully arrested and falsely imprisoned by the police.

Soraya speaks fluent French, Italian, Spanish and German and has a working understanding of Albanian, Russian and related Slavic languages.
